Education

The New York Financial Writers Association sponsors and co-sponsors events and panels throughout the year intended to improve the professional development of its members. Frequently these events address hot topics like blogging, the courts and journalists, or career-building initiatives like advice on new media outlets for freelancers. In addition, the NYFWA works with other organizations to help publicize educational events for journalists. Check the calendar for the latest information.

On October 2, 2014 roughly two dozen NYFWA members joined Anya Schiffrin, the director of the media and communications program at Columbia University’s School of International and Public Affairs, for a discussion of her new book “Global Muckraking: 100 Years ...of Investigative Journalism From Around the World” on October 2nd. As a change of pace, the event was held in Schiffrin’s home, where members enjoyed wine and appetizers and had the chance to engage in a bit of networking before peppering Schiffrin with questions about how her book came about and why she chose the specific examples of “muckraking” that are highlighted in her book.
