Bell Award Winners

Elliott V. Bell Award Winners Each year, the NYFWA presents an award named in honor of its founding president to an outstanding journalist for a significant long-term contribution to the profession of financial journalism.

About Elliott V. Bell: Born in 1902, Elliott Valance Bell was the founding president of the New York Financial Writers’ Association. During a career span of almost 60 years, he served as a reporter for The New York Herald Tribune and The New York Times, and as editor and later publisher of BusinessWeek magazine, now known as Bloomberg Businessweek. Bell also served as economic adviser to the 47th governor of New York, Thomas E. Dewey and as the state's Superintendent of Banks. In 1950, he became chairman of the executive committee of McGraw-Hill Inc., then the owner of BusinessWeek.
