This year’s NYFWA video will feature a photo montage poking fun at the situations we have all been enduring while trying to work remotely since the COVID-19 pandemic began. And we need your photos/short video clips to make it work!!!!

We are producing a music video to the tune of “Don’t Stand So Close to Me,” entitled “Don’t Cough So Close to Me.” Given the challenges of putting together a video in the middle of a global pandemic, we are taking a different approach to this year’s video and are going to have a photo montage playing during the video. For this to work, we need you to submit photos to illustrate some of the crazy situations that we all find ourselves in while working in this wacky, virtual world.

Here’s what we need you to do:
  1. Read the song lyrics (SEE BELOW)
  2. Decide what situation you want to represent in your photo(s). We have a list of suggestions below but welcome your creativity. There is no limit on the amount of photos you can submit, though we can’t promise we will be able to include them all.
  3. Take your photos (smartphone photos are fine) in landscape orientation if possible.
  4. Upload your jpg(s) to our DROPBOX in the highest resolution possible.
  5. Deadline for submission: ASAP

Photo Suggestions:

  • Someone typing on a laptop while sitting on a toilet (fully dressed, with the toilet cover down, of course)
  • Someone nicely dressed on top for Zoom but with pajama bottoms
  • A series of photos of a home office setup. The close-up looks good but the step-back shows a giant mess just out of Zoom camera view
  • Someone surrounded by stacks of hoarded toilet paper and paper towels
  • Lots of tight head shots of people wearing unusual face masks
  • People holding up signs with silly messages: (i.e. “Operation Enduring Shitstorm.” “I Need Another Quarantini” “I Was into Social Distancing Before it Was Cool”)
  • A fake Yelp review such as: 2020 Very Boring And No Toilet Paper. Would Not Recommend. (one star)
  • Please feel free to include children in the shots -we’re all dealing with home schooling, so it makes things more realistic
  • And pets! Like cats on the keyboard, dogs hogging the work chair.
  • Somebody sleeping on the job.
  • Lots of sight gags in a series. (i.e. five shots of a person at work from home going from alert to drowsy to asleep…or maybe interrupted by other stuff)
  • LOTS of people wearing pajama bottoms

Other ideas are VERY welcome, so get creative!

SONG LYRICS:

DON’T COUGH SO CLOSE TO ME
to the tune of Don’t Stand So Close to Me (The Police)

It’s April, the virus
Corona kryptonite
Thank goodness, it won’t last
A temporary blight

We’re typing our stories
While sitting on the loo
Remember to flush it
Before your interview

Don’t cough, don’t cough so
Don’t cough so close to me
Don’t cough, don’t cough so
Don’t cough so close to me

It’s August, in Greenpoint
My source is out of reach
My boss in the Hamptons
Nitpicks me from the beach

Pandemic pajamas
Are all I ever wear
This writing remotely
Has left me in despair

Don’t Zoom, don’t Zoom so
Don’t Zoom so close to me
Don’t Zoom, don’t Zoom so
Don’t Zoom so close to me

November, I’ve got the
Financial writer blues
Since Covid exploded
Can’t focus on the news

So tragic it’s funny
I laugh and then I cry
My brain feels like onions
In month-old shepherd’s pie

Don’t stand, don’t stand so
Don’t stand so close to me

Don’t me, don’t me so
Don’t me so close to stand
Don’t close, don’t close so
Don’t close so stand to me

Don’t clan, don’t clan so
Don’t clan so Mister Clean

Don’t clan, don’t clan so
Don’t clan so Mister Clean

Don’t clan, don’t clan so
Don’t clan so Mister Clean

Don’t clan, don’t clan so
Don’t clan so Mister Clean

No stan, no stando
No stando stando stee

Don’t plan, don’t plan to
Don’t plan to talk to me
Don’t cram, don’t cram in
Don’t cram in here with me

Don’t ham, don’t ham and
Don’t ham and sausage me
Don’t clam, don’t clam and
Don’t clam and chowder me
