Elliot Bell Award Presentation Examines Whether We Can Predict the Next Financial Crisis

This year's Elliott V. Bell Award ceremony delved into the question of whether or not journalists can predict the next financial crisis. 

     

Congratulations to Richard Koreto on the publishing of his first two novels

Longtime NYFWA member and former president Richard Koreto has had his first two novels published. The first, "Death on the Sapphire: A Lady Frances Ffolkes Mystery," which is written under the pen name R. J. Koreto, marks the debut of a historical mystery series Richard is writing about an Edwardian-era suffragist named Lady Frances Ffolkes. "Death on the Sapphire," which is being published by Crooked Land Books, will be available from Amazon staring on June 14.

Remembering Longtime NYFWA Member Jefferson Grigsby

Longtime NYFWA member Jefferson Grigsby passed away on January 6th at the age of 85, following a lengthy illness.

Dan Bases Named Deputy U.S. Public Finance Editor at Reuters

NYFWA member Daniel Bases, a former NYFWA president, has been named Deputy U.S. Public Finance Editor at Reuters. In the 18 years Dan has been with Reuters Dan has held numerous positions with the company, both in New York and London. He has spend the last 12 years focused primarily on emerging markets and foreign policy. Daniel is a former Knight-Bagehot Fellow and the co-recipient of their 2015 Christopher J. Welles Memorial Prize for excellence in business journalism.

Scholarship Winners Jessica DiNapoli and Carl O’Donnell Named to Reuters Posts

Jessica DiNapoli, a 2015 NYFWA scholarship recipient and recent graduate of the Columbia Graduate School of Journalism, has been named as a corporate restructuring reporter for Reuters’ Deal Team. Jessica initially joined Reuters in June and was previously covering Puerto Rico for the municipal bonds team.

2015 Scholarship Winner Jessica Lynn DiNapoli Hired by Reuters

Congratulations to 2015 NYFWA scholarship recipient winner Jessica Lynn DiNapoli on being hired by Reuters, where she will be covering restructuring from an M&A standpoint. DiNapoli is a recent graduate of the Columbia Graduate School of Journalism. 

Cezary Podkul Wins SABEW Award -His Second Award This Year

Congratulations to Cezary Podkul on winning the Society of American Business Editors and Writers’ Larry Birger Young Business Journalist prize, which honors journalists under 30 years old. Podkul will receive his award and a $1,500 honorarium at SABEW’s New York Fall Conference on October 9th.

 “Larry Birger played an important role in the development of business journalism and it gives us great pleasure to recognize his legacy through this award to Podkul,” said Josh Merkin, vice president of rbb Communications.
